This tool is intended to be used for creating the grating surface of a garlic grater while the piece is being shaped on the wheel. I designed this tool when I started making my garlic graters and could not find a good way to reliably make the grating surface. I went through several iterations to find the ~perfect~ dimensions. This can also be used to add texture to the surface of a piece. I have reached for it many times when I want to add texture without hand carving!
